"The forests are the flags of nature. They appeal to
all and awaken inspiring universal feelings. Enter the forest and the boundaries
of nations are forgotten. It may be that some time an immortal pine will be the
flag of a united peaceful world."

Sallachy Forest, Sallachy, By Lairg,
Sutherland - 299.8 Hectares - Offers in the region of
£500,000
Sallachy Forest is a compact
area of commercial plantation with open hill ground
located near Lairg with stunning views over the shores
of Loch Shin. The woodlands were planted in two stages
with some felling and restocking recently carried out in
the earlier compartments. The woodland has an attractive
broadleaf frontage on the lower ground while there is
open hill ground above the plantations.
The earlier planted areas offer an opportunity for
potential purchasers to plan for some felling in the
short term, whereas the 1990's compartments provide
future forest resource. Sallachy Forest is well situated
in respect of the timber markets with sawmilling at
Dingwall, located some 38 miles away and the recently
commissioned wood energy mill at Invergordon is within
60 miles.

Craig Wood - Avoch, Inverness - 18.8 Hectares (46 acres)
- Offers over: £70,000
The woodland is
predominantly mature broadleaf, with areas of mature
Beech, but also native Wych Elm, Oak, Ash and a number
of minor species throughout the wood. Natural
regeneration is well established, particularly Beech.
Most of the woodland is scheduled as ASNW (Ancient
Semi-Natural Woodland) and is covered by a Tree
Preservation Order (TPO) since 1993. There are several
points of interest within the wood, including a
'millennium' Standing Stone, and a unique beech tree
carved with Native American peace symbols. The woodland
has been maintained as a natural habitat by the present
owners, and wildlife includes red squirrel, pine marten,
pheasants and buzzards. Roe deer can occasionally be
seen, as can other unusual protected species. The
woodland lends itself primarily to amenity use, with the
potential for a small commercial income, and is featured
in the forthcoming Woodland Trust 'Scottish Exploring
Woodlands Guide.'
